2018 had a lot of really good music. There were also bad ones here. Hits 1 picked up some amazing music this year and let the bad ones not graduate HitBound. It’s so nice that many singer get better but some just get worse. Now, before we get to my top 45 of 2018, here’s the 3 rules.
First of all, if a song is in my top 45 of 2018, it must make the countdown. If it makes HitBound but not the countdown, it won’t count. Even if it doesn’t make Hits 1, it still doesn’t count.
Secondly, songs that were in my top 47 songs of 2017 aren’t eligible for this list. Here’s the songs that left the countdown in 2018 but were considered in my top 45 songs of 2017.
Cheat Codes/Demi Lovato - No Promises (#5, left 01/13/18)
Macklemore/Skylar Grey - Glorious (#38, left 1/13/18)
Taylor Swift - Look What You Make Me Do (#27, left 01/27/18)
Shawn Mendes - There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back (#6, left 03/24/18)
Maroon 5 - What Lovers Do (#28, left 03/24/18)
Camila Cabello - Havana (#7, left 07/21/19)
Bebe Rexha/Florida Georgia Line - Meant To Be (#20, left 08/25/18)
And finally, the cutoff date is December so songs that debuted at December 1, 2018 or after aren’t considered in this list. Here’s the songs that debuted too late and will be first looked for consideration in my top 45 songs of 2019.
Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next
David Guetta/Anne-Marie - Don’t Leave Me Alone
Little Mix/Nicki Minaj - Woman Like Me
Lauv/Julia Michael’s - There’s No Way
Ava Max - Sweet But Psycho
Lauren Jauregui - Expectations
Olly Murs/Snoop Dogg - Moves
My Top 45 of 2018:
- Dua Lipa - New Rules
This is a really good song from her. She can really hit the high notes. This song is by far better than IDGAF. She is really unique in a way. When this song debuted the countdown, I had this song stuck in my head. This song was my sister’s dance solo last year. TBH, I was kinda pissed that it re entered because it got old.
- Twenty One Pilots – Jumpsuit
Twenty One Pilots are a really good duo. They’ve released an album this year called Trench. It was such a disappointment to their last album, Blurryface because they had some bad songs. This, however is not one of them. It has a really good production for the most of the song. The only part of he song that I really don’t like is Tyler yelling at the end of the chorus. It’s just obnoxious and doesn’t fit well with the song. Nevertheless, it was a really good song.
- Noah Kahan/Julia Michaels – Hurt Somebody
This is one of the few Julia Michaels songs I can actually tolerate. Back in 2017, she had Issues and Uh Huh with both of them being bad. But this year, she’s been going uphill with her music. Jump was really good but it didn’t make the countdown. I really like this song because really of Noah Kahan. This is such a relaxing song. Too Bad it wasn’t a big hit elsewhere. This song deserved more.
- Niall Horan – Slow Hands
I think I should’ve ranked this song in my top 45 songs last year. Niall is a really good singer and his solos doesn’t really disappoint. He’s not the best member from One Direction but his music is really good. I shouldn’t have gotten sick of this song because it’s so catchy. This was better than This Town by far. He is definitely a winner over Liam and Harry. Keep it up Niall. Hits 1 wants more Niall in 2019. I agree with that.
- Madison Beer – Home With You
The song and production is very catchy. I feel that Madison Beer is a very unique artist. She has a unique voice. This song deserved a lot better on Hits 1 and it shouldn’t have been a flop. They keep underrating the teen artists. They did that last year with all of Hey Violet’s 3 songs. The lead singer was 19 back then. Now, Madison is 19. I really hope we get more from her in the future.
- Calvin Harris/Sam Smith – Promises
Calvin Harris is a very great DJ. Despite choosing Sam Smith for this song, it’s still really good. It’s a very catchy EDM track. I’m losing interest in it. It’s not as good as I Need Your Love with Ellie Goulding which is his best song. I honestly think that he’s a better DJ than a singer. Hopefully, he will have much better songs in the future.
- Meghan Trainor - Let You Be Right
On DSR, Hits 1 used to put the title in the artist slot and vice versa. I thought that was really weird. Now, this song isn’t Meghan’s best really. She is a very good artist and it’s a very good song. I really like her vocals here. The song has a true meaning behind it. I don’t understand how people like Adrian could hate it. What makes it not one of Meghan’s best is really the production. There should be a better production. But nevertheless, it’s still an amazing song and Meghan did a well done job here.
- Selena Gomez/Marshmello – Wolves
This was a huge step up from Selena’s previous songs. Instead of whispering like she did a lot in Revival, she is actually singing. This is the Selena I like to hear. However, she did release Bad Liar last year which did involve whispering. Whispering Selena is still good but she shows more talent when she sings. It’s definitely not as good as songs like Come & Get It but it’s still very tolerable. If Selena keeps going in this path, I will keep liking her again and again.
- Ed Sheeran - Perfect
What a very sweet and moving song. This was a very good song which sadly wasn’t on my favorite songs of 2017. This was my prom theme song from my graduation last school year. Whenever I hear this song, it simply reminds me of my graduation. It has such a beautiful production. This is one of the tolerable slower Ed Sheeran songs. Amazing song that I should’ve never even got sick of.
- Ed Sheeran – Galway Girl
More Ed Sheeran that I’ll need to review. This sadly wasn’t on my top 45 songs of 2017 either. It’s a jam and I really like the tune. It’s an Irish-like tune that is really catchy. This is easily the best song from Divide. He can really hit the high note as well. In the lyrics, he’s talking about a pretty Galway Girl which is an Irish girl that he likes. And I also really love Irish music. They’re a lot better than K-Pop and other types of world music. It’s a really catchy song that keeps getting stuck in my head. We need more Ed Sheeran songs like this. This vibe was really meant for him.
- Panic! At The Disco – Hey Look Ma, I Made It
Panic! At The Disco is a really good band in my opinion. They have many good songs but they get sick pretty quickly. This is far better than Say Amen (Saturday Night) and High Hopes which both hit #1. They’re now really bad. As for this song, I don’t really see myself getting sick of it anytime soon. This is their second best song with their first being Miss Jackson. After all, I’m glad this became a hit.
- MNEK/Hailee Steinfeld – Colour
Hailee Steinfeld is a really good singer but I don’t see this song as good as her others. It’s really good but MNEK is a different story. I don’t think this song was popular elsewhere. It wasn’t even popular here because it only lasted 5 weeks on the countdown. Hailee is a much better artist when she sings solo. Her music usually never disappoints me. Even hough it flopped, I’m so glad it made the countdown.
- Zayn/Sia – Dusk Till Dawn
Zayn and Sia are both really good singers. This is by far Zayn best song. The production is really catchy and it’s an amazing beat. There’s many songs that have this beat. To be honest, the best just usually doesn’t get old. Also, the message is amazing. He’s been waiting from dusk to dawn and he’ll be right here. A song like this is a dream come true and definitely deserved more on Hits 1.
- Juice WRLD – Lucid Dreams
This was such a hated rap song. I don’t know how it was hated, it’s a very good song. It does sound like a dreaming song and it completely matches the title. Juice WRLD isn’t a very good rapper but this is by far his best song to date. It’s beautiful and very catchy. I believe why people hated this was because of him not being a good rapper. The production of the song is really beautiful and the song has a really good message. His vocals aren’t that bad either in this song. But nevertheless, it’s an awesome song.
- Ariana Grande – Breathin’
I’m a huge fan of Ariana Grande from beginning the end. She never disappoints me with her music. I can see why that is. This song is really mesmerizing but it’s just not as good as her other songs. Break Free was my all time favorite song and she collaborated with Zedd in that song. It’s repetitive so I may get sick of it soon. But now, it’s just a great song.
- Louis Tomlinson – Miss You
Louis Tomlinson is my favorite member from One Direction. He is the one that made One Direction music absolutely amazing. I loved Drag Me Down and Perfect. I also loved What Makes You Beautiful and Story Of My Life. His first single outside of One Direction was Just Hold On with Steve Aoki. He released this song because his mother died from Leukemia. That has actually happened 2 years ago so time goes so fast. Just Hold On was just a really good song that sticks with me until I got sick of it. Back To You was also really good and he collaborated with Bebe Rexha. She’s an amazing singer as well. And now, thank God this song made then countdown.
- The Wrecks – James Dean
This song describes an old actor James Dean. Well not only the message is appealing but it show honest into the song. The production is really good and I have a feeling that it wasn’t that bad. I don’t see how there could actually be people that hate it. Unfortunately, this song didn’t get outside of Hits 1. That was bad too because I loved this song. It didn’t even have a really long tenure here. Oh well.
- Selena Gomez - Back To You
I honestly don’t know which Back To You was better because they were both good. Selena’s a really good singer and as I said in Wolves, she shouldn’t be whispering in her songs. This is better that Wolves because of the more catchy production in the song. Unlike Wolves, this took me a while to get sick of when in Wolves, it only took me a short time. Due to how successful this song is, it’s going to survive to 2019.
- G-Eazy/Halsey – Him & I
What a good song and it was far better than Wicked. Wicked was just weird but this is really good. Halsey sounds great in this song. She doesn’t disappoint usually. The only exception was Now Or Never which I find boring and a complete rip off of Rihanna - Needed Me. I was glad that Needed Me never even made Hits 1 though. But at least this song made my list.
- All Time Low – Last Young Renegade
Hits 1 picks up songs from this really good alternative band. All Time Low keeps getting better. In 2015, they had a song called Something’s Gotta Give and it wasn’t really that great of a song. I got sick of it rather quickly. Plus it did have a long tenure on Hits 1. This one had a 4 week only tenure which sucked. I expected this song to last a lot longer. Maybe like about 20 weeks instead of only 4. This is a jam.
- Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso/Florida Georgia Line/watt – Let Me Go
Hailee Steinfeld is a really good singer. In fact she has many songs that at get stuck in my head. Because of overplay, this isn’t really as good as her other songs. I started to get sick of in that week where we had a 4-way-tie for the biggest drop. But after it left, it’s actually really good again. Not her best though but it’s tolerable. I’m glad I didn’t put it in my top 45 of 2017 because of its success here.
- NOTD/Bea Miller – I Wanna Know
This song wasn’t a big hit elsewhere. When it debuted the countdown, I seriously thought it was going to flop in like a 5-10 week tenure. I was way off as it’s still on the countdown. At least it didn’t flop but it shouldn’t still stay on the countdown. It was a really good song but I got sick of it due to its long tenure. I’m still proud and glad of myself that this has made my top 45 songs of 2018. The song is pretty easy to get sick of because of it being repetitive and all. As it tried to be a hit elsewhere and it didn’t happen, this song is fortunately not gaining popularity.
- The Chainsmokers/Kelsea Ballerini – This Feeling
This is by far The Chainsmokers’ best song to date. The production is very catchy and he chorus is just something that keeps getting stuck in your head for a long time. It may actually be a while before I get sick of this song. When it reached #1 on the countdown last week, I was in love. This is because songs like Youngblood and High Hopes were really overplayed and people just still like it. Kelsea I think might’ve made it a lot better. I’m very glad that this song was successful and got announced on the countdown by Spyder Harrison.
- The Vamps – Just My Type
The only Vamps song that didn’t flop on Hits 1 was Somebody To You which was actually really good. Oh Cecilia, Wake Up, All Night, and this song all pretty much flopped. Out of the 4 songs, this song has the shortest tenure with Oh Cecilia being a close second lasting 1 week longer. This song definitely deserved more success and shouldn’t have flopped. I honestly think the reason why most of The Vamps songs flopped on Hits 1 was because none of them were really hits.
- Troye Sivan – My My My!
This song is better than both Youth and Wild. The latter, however, did not graduate HitBound while the former had a nice run. As for My My My!, 5 weeks on the countdown wasn’t enough. It deserved a better run. It should’ve lasted on the countdown about as long as Youth. I have a feeling that this song was very underrated and it should’ve been more rated. But at least it made the countdown.
- Kim Petras – Heart To Break
Kim Petras is new here as opposed to other stations. She is actually transgender. That means that she was born a male but was turned into a female. TBH, I would never do that. Anyway, this is a really great song that deserved more on Hits 1 that it really did. The production is catchy and she can really hit those high notes. Hopefully, Hits 1 picks up another song from her later on.
- Khalid/Normani – Love Lies
I’m not a real big fan of Khalid myself. The reason why is was ranked really high was because of Normandi. She was on Fifth Harmony which was my favorite band. I really like the song and the vocals are catchy. Khalid has improved so much after Young, Dumb, & Broke. But after that, Location is just trash. It’s too bad Hits 1 doesn’t like black people but this has became big. It’s like that the countdown is based more on votes. Normandi is a better singer than Lauren IMO. At least this song was successful.
- Bazzi/Camila Cabello – Beautiful
As I was not a fan of Mine, I’m a fan of this song. That’s because Bazzi chose Camila Cabello to collab with. She is just a great singer. She sometimes can get too high pitched like in Never Be The Same but this is a really good song. As I said, Fifth Harmony just never disappoints me very much. The song is even beautiful itself.
- Meghan Trainor – No Excuses
So many people hate Meghan Trainor and think she’s going downhill. I honestly agree that she’s going downhill as this song wasn’t as good as songs like Lips Are Movin. But the point is that this song is still really good. It’s a bit repetitive but I really like it. What I disagree is that Meghan is hated. Meghan is just too overhated as an artist in general. She’s a really good artist and her music doesn’t disappoint.
- Benny Blanco/Halsey/Khalid – Eastside
I’m glad this made Hits 1. Because this song had Khalid, that doesn’t mean it won’t make the countdown. It’s an amazing song from start to finish. I still can’t get sick of this song. It’s just a very fun and catchy beat to get into. Halsey is really good too and it’s a shame not too many like her part in the song. But nevertheless, it’s a great song.
- Sabrina Carpenter – Almost Love
Sabrina Carpenter was an actress in the Disney channel show, Girl Meets Worlds. I used to love that show when I was younger. She’s a very good singer as well. Last year, she had a song on the countdown called Why and it was hated by many of us in the blogging community. However, it’s not hated by my By any means. This song was a better song in the community and many people loved it. . definitely loved it and was begging for it to debut. It did debut but it didn’t last very long in the countdown. It was one of the many songs this year that lasted only 5 weeks. That’s bad because it deserved better.
- Clean Bandit/Demi Lovato – Solo
Two weeks just wasn’t enough for this song. It’s so amazing and these 2 made a very good collaboration. I love Clean Bandit and this is such a good song. My birthday weekend wasn’t as good this year due to the departure of this song. It’s a good thing that this song didn’t have the shortest tenure of the year. The award belongs to I’ll Never Love Again with staying for only one week. At least this made the countdown.
- Fall Out Boy – Hold Me Tight Or Don't
This is Fall Out Boy’s best song to date, with it being better than Young Volcanoes. I don’t know why this song was overhated in the first place. It’s a lot better than Young & Menace which was trash. Fall Out Boy’s music is really overplayed but I couldn’t get sick of this song. It definitely deserved better.
- Rudimental/Jess Glynne/Macklemore/Dan Caplen – These Days
Rudimental has a song in 2012 called Feel The Love and it was a bad song. It ruins John Newman’s voice and it just wasn’t worth it. This song, on the other hand is amazing. This sound a lot like a song from the last decade and those songs are great. It can also sound like a 2012 song. Also, this is a very unique collaboration. As I’m not really fan of Jess Glynne, she doesn’t do really much to this song. But it also lasted longer on the countdown than I expected it to. I expected it to be a flop. But amazing song.
- Shawn Mendes – In My Blood
Shawn Mendes has became a better singer than ever this year. In My Blood is a song that definitely deserved to be on repeat. It’s such a good song. I cannot get sick of it. Other songs I have got sick of from him. I’m so glad that it’s still on the countdown and hopefully, it survives to 2019. I don’t see how anyone could hate the song.
- Charlie Puth – The Way I Am
How Long was garbage compared to this song. However, this is Charlie’s 2nd best song, he first being Marvin Gaye with Meghan Trainor. I really like the production in this song. It has a really nice beat and it fits perfectly with the song. His vocals are very unique in this song. He can hit those note really high. I don’t understand why people like Adrian hate it. It’s just too good of a song to hate.
- Anne-Marie – 2002
Anne-Marie is such an amazing singer. I like how she wants to go back to 2002. In that year, I was a toddler. I was very cute back then. I was in daycare and daycare was fun. Now, I’m in college and it’s just not as fun. I’ll have to do work. Homework and other work really stinks. I really wanna go back to 2002. I seriously miss my childhood so much. I can’t believe that time goes too fast. I seriously miss my childhood. The lyrics are what makes the song amazing. Other than the lyrics, I really like the production. The tune is clean and Anne-Marie’s voice is completely suitable for this song. Hopefully, we will see more songs like this.
- NF – Lie
NF is an Eminem 2.0, however, NF is far better. His music isn’t disappointing at all. He’s a really good rapper for the most part. His Perception album is amazing and his music is really catchy. It’s one of those songs that I can’t get sick of. I really like the lyrics and and lying like that makes sense. Too bad that it flopped on Hits 1.
- Shawn Mendes/Zedd – Lost In Japan
The remix of this song is far better than the original. Zedd definitely puts a nice twist into this song. And I find the lyrics really good. The message is about himself heading to Japan. He finds that he’s lost and all. Also, I really wanna go to Japan one day because it’s such a beautiful place. Places like Tokyo are really busy and crowded and you easily can get lost. I’m glad this song made Hits 1.
6. Dustin Atlas/Erin Bowman – Fake Friends
This song is really catchy for the most part. It’s nice to see Erin Bowman again after she flopped with Good Time, Good Life. Unfortunately, this song didn’t become became a hit elsewhere because it’s a very good song. It has a catchy production and talks a lot about fake friends. I have a lot of fake friends in my mind. They’re imaginary friends to my heart.
- Ariana Grande – God Is A Woman
I have really enjoyed Ariana Grande ever since she started her music career. She is a really good singer and all her songs are great. In 2016, she’s released Side To Side which was one of her best songs. I like how she used a reggae vibe style for both Side To Side and this song. However, nothing can top her song, Break Free which was too good. I just don’t know why the reggae vibe from Ariana is hated. Adrian hated Side To Side because of the reggae vibe. I was also surprised of him hating it because he barely got sick of it on the week it left. GIAW is not as good as Side To Side but it’s still really good. Adrian hates this song as well.
- Marshmello/Anne-Marie – Friends
Here’s more Anne-Marie. She is collaborating with Marshmello with this song. This another song that was overhated. It’s such a good song that I shouldn’t have gotten sick of. I mean Anne-Marie sounds really good in the chorus. She isn’t high pitched. It’s not a messy song. The song itself is really good and I’m glad it became a hit.
- NF – Let You Down
Here is another NF song that shouldn’t have been overhated. Let You Down is better than Lie and it deserved better. It didn’t have such a long tenure and I’d rather have the song stay in the countdown for a longer time. I cannot get sick of this song one bit. The rap verses are amazing and the chorus is really sweet. However, the music video is pretty weird in my opinion. Other than that, the song is really good.
- Bebe Rexha – I'm a Mess
Bebe Rexha’s music has always been good. She keeps producing good songs. Unfortunately, I couldn’t rank Meant To Be here because it was in my top 45 songs of 2017. It was here because I honestly thought it was going to flop. However, it didn’t and now this song is taking over. Bebe Rexha is a very talented singer. She music career is going uphill. She hasn’t disappointed me one bit with her music. The lyrics are also really catchy and it’s an amazing song. She’s needs to keep it like this and not go downhill like many other singers are doing.
- Ariana Grande – No Tears Left To Cry
This is is unbelievably amazing and is such a masterpiece. Ariana can really sing and she’s so talented like Bebe. The song itself is so mesmerizing. I honestly believe this is Ariana’s 2nd best with her best being Break Free. Break Free is my all time favorite song and I’m glad that it became a hit. I honestly think this artist is amazing in general she is in sync whenever she sings. Thank god we’ve got another favorite song from her. Sweetener is just a great album and this song is no exception. Every song from her album is great. I can’t even get sick of this song. Amazing song that deserved to be on the countdown.
